The hand router quickly reaches its limits (even when used in the router table) when cutting profiles. Profile routing where larger quantities of wood are removed (for example, flattening or cornices) can only be achieved with a great deal of effort, if at all (with several routing passes or split blanks).

The situation is different with the table router, which is virtually predestined for such work. Besides the cutters for grooving, folding, planing/joining and facing, the use of a profile cutterhead is recommended for profiling.

Milling profiles on the router table.

A universal router head can be equipped with sets of knives that in themselves offer a variety of profiles. Added to this are the possibilities offered by simply raising or lowering the cutter head. Finally, on most bench routers the spindle can be tilted, which multiplies the number of possible profiles even further. If you still don't have the profile you want, you can simply use blanks that can be ground to the desired shape.

We offer high-quality profile knives in 40 mm and 50 mm lengths and for each set of knives also the matching deflectors, the use of which is prescribed for manual feed (MAN). The deflectors prevent the material from hitting the knife edge in a large thickness, which could lead to kickbacks (so-called chip thickness limitation). So for each pair of moulding knives you order, you need the matching deflectors, which are clamped together in the router cutter head in order to be able to work safely and comply with the relevant regulations. The correspondence between profile knives and deflectors can be easily checked by means of the article numbers.
